Dawki River - Call it a dream!!

Whats the best thing you take from travelling?

It was time of Christmas where in Shillong people were at their best celebrations, whole town swayed in loud music, lights and the town colored up where as when been to Cherrapunji, none of the shops opened, whole town dropped in silence, all i could see few families at places enjoying their excursions and few at church to which i could not stop myself asking the stay owner. He to this answered,  they being in a small village with very few options for source of income and finding some options to earn and stand up to the daily expenses with neither much expectations nor wanting anything to be upto living up with small dreams were happy in themselves, he also added we love being this and the best enjoyment is our family time isn't it? I was moved and yes this is what truly a festival is in enjoying little things with your family around and these are the ones having the real enjoyment of life in true way to be happy in. To me the best things we take while travelling is not only the nature/place, we get along various people with different environment, culture, way of living instead every place speaks a story of its own and few get lucky to hear these.

Connecting to Nature

Tranquility of nature here gets you closer to its heart be it misty diverse mountains, clouds closer, wind passing by or the flowing water adding music to your ears. Immerse in in midst of these serene beauty, you happily remain lost there forever. Your eyes will never get tired of admiring things around, confused where to look at and what to leave behind. Biking at these roads surrounded with such beauty is something you cannot have asked for more.

Road trip and a perfect weather

I was totally enjoying this with a perfect weather for the road trip. Meghalaya, the name itself says it all,  just felt biking all through the dark clouds. Road trips are undoubtedly the best, but i suggest you must in Meghalaya. It gets darker around 5 pm and you get time of around 6-7 hours for any places to visit. This is where if you have bikes you can utilize it for reaching out the other places at your own choice and time. We did come across the best views on our way from cherrapunji to Dawki which made us halt at many places as we could not resist ourselves to admire this beautiful diverse mountains.

Reached Dawki River 

The road gets narrowed while closer to dawki with amazing mountain view. Its around 2 hrs from cherrapunji to dawki (around 70km)  and we reached there around 4 pm. It was little crowded and noisy with people all over stopping you at every now and then for boating.

While entering you come across a beautiful bridge to cross and then the  river view from top with the pebbles just like pearl spreaded and boats arranged at the corner forming a beautiful necklace to the river.

Added to this is a tiny beautiful village where we entered to check the stay. After a while of search we could manage to get a room but then we could feel lightening right above of our head, all the rooms were with Indian toilets. The blood clots and terrible pain in our leg(after trekking for whole day as mentioned in earlier blog) already felt like dying moving each step towards the reception at first floor and then hearing this was a real pain. My leg just hated this steps right then. No wonder the other two with me (my soulmate and brother) didn't use the washroom at all and obviously left no chance of laughing at me, poor me left with no option.  It was a total disastrous pain while using the Indian washroom. I each time died a little, i can now laugh at this but no words can put it down the pain i went then and how the other two went rolling down and laughing at me each time Haha!

We went on a walk through this village, the climate here was a total change when compared to the other areas of Meghalaya. It wasn't cold here at all and we walked to have the angelic view of the river with boats in different colors adding an extra point. We for a while sat there and then headed to have food post to which we went playing carrom at the stay with a German lady who was there on 6 months vacation. Wow only traveling for 6 months i wish i could at some point manage to put this in my checked list.

View Point of Bangladesh Border 

The next day we woke up early in the morning to reach the view point of Bangladesh border and Dawki river with sunrise. The view point was in midst of the other village where we reached after asking few and you get to see from the pic below and can guess if we had reached to see the sunrise haha!!.

After being through this pain, all i could see all over again and again were steps, this time too both descent and ascent no wonder with a slow pace it took longer time for us to reach the point. I could hear the silence and sound of nature from the top to this angelic view and no one around.

Crystal Water of  Umngot River

We came back to the river and the flowing crystal water in the silence of early morning with the cool breeze passing by was the best start to the day.

Dawki a place where boat seems floating in air 

The umngot river where you feel the boat floating in air is a real feast to eyes and peace to your mind.

I was surrounded in the beautiful diverse mountain, with harmony of flowing river adding music to ears, bridge connecting two ends, beautiful lights, camping with the stay right there Wohoooow!! This was just beyond anything i could have wished a morning to be.

We have been there for a time and left to the beautiful place Shnongpdeng with lesser crowd over and something out of a fantasy land adding a total worth to the trip.
