Top Places to Visit in Rameshwaram

1) Ramanathaswamy Temple

The stay i had taken was at walkable distance to the temple of Rameshwaram which then adds a benefit of being to temple and agneeteertham early in the morning, you can leave all your belongings camera/phone/shoes  at your stay as one is not allowed to carry anything inside temple. Temple at Mornings are filled up with massive devotees whereas at evening its comparatively less. It includes 1212 pillars in the outer corridor known for its Dravidian architecture and inside are placed two Shiva lingams.

Interesting Ancient History of Rameshwaram Temple

Origin of two Shiva lingams in temple

It is believed to be a place where Rama worshiped lord Shiva to penance after killing Ravana(a Brahman and one of the biggest devotee of lord Shiva), in order to do so Shree Rama wanted to place Shiva lingam there hence sent hanuman to Kailasha(abode of  Lord Shiva) to get it as it was getting delayed meanwhile Sita built one which was named Viswalingam and the one got later by Hanuman as Ramalingam. Both the Shiva lingams were placed by Rama and it is said as instructed Ramalingam is worshiped prior to Viswalingam.

This holy shrine is one of the Char Dhams and said that every hindu should pay a visit for atleast once and Varanasi pilgrim is incomplete without visiting this. This belief attracts many and no matter what believes you carry you need to visit this place to see the testimony of religious faith in people that roars beyond sky.

2) Agnitheertham

I have been to Agneeteertham early in the morning prior sunrise which is walkable from Ramanathaswamy temple and to my surprise i was in midst of plenty of people with too many mantras reaching out my ears. It is considered that your sins gets washed away taking a dip in the water of Agnitheertham. Whether or not you are a morning person try reaching out before sunrise no i did not mean to wash away your sins but then the pic says it all what this place has got to offer you with at sunrise, it turns out really amazing.

13) Former President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam House

I have taken a bus from Rameshwaram bus stop near to the Ramanathaswamy temple and reached this town and walked to the house, a source of inspiration that walks you through his life and achievements. The house is now taken care by his elder brother with the first floor with the awards, achievements, documents, books and his belongings whereas the second floor is of shopping, clicking pictures isn't allowed here. A must visit place if in Rameshwaram and every indian would land in proud to be here.
