The trek long and tiring, surely adding highlight to your trip is a worth it opportunity of reaching to this magical place to view 150+ old man made astounding natural wonder deep in dense tropical forest surrounded with cluster of colourful butterflies, natural swimming pool, natural fish pedicure, rocks, beautiful bridges. This unique beauty adds the reason of being the most popular tourist attraction of Cherrapunji.
The Journey
The journey we had no idea about where and how is it going to get to. I no matter how hard try beforehand but never end up planning any trips and mostly land into unplanned ones, and so are the other two lazytoons who were along in the trip - my brother and my soulmate. I can totally relate to this saying - Unplanned trips/adventures are often the best ones. After going around in Shillong we started late to Cherrapunji which was around 2hrs (54km) from Shillong. As Meghalaya gets dark at 5 pm we had biked in complete darkness on the zigzag roads of misty mountains with no street lights nor anyone around. All i could feel is the cold breeze travelling all way long from the giant mountains only to reach and talk to me. I loved it passing by in silence around and leaving behind the beautiful messages sent from nature. One of the December days in Meghalaya, biking with minus temperature turned me numb and lost in nature finding inner peace where none would deny to get lost into over and over again. While lost into my own imaginations with the wind blowing through my hair and fresh air passing my face i woke up to see the stay. It was more freezing the moment i got down but as the owner wasn't available had to wait for a while in the cold. Meanwhile i saw few people returning from the trek extremely exhausted and who left answering in a single word "Amazing!!" to someone questioning them about the trek. I then had no idea of not being able to stand up to that state to put up that single word too the other day back from the trek. Haha!!
The next morning we got up our bikes ready and reached Tyrna village. I later on realised why wasn't i told anything about the trek beforehand, i could later understand the love for trek my brother had, he definitely knew me very well and could not stand any risk of dropping the trekking plan. I very confidently underestimating the trek got into my new shoes, also as it was too cold got the jacket along, two bottles, camera and few others things in bag. Dropping at tyrna, had maggi and chai there, the only option then. We were all set to go. Come lets see how the trekking starts!
Trail to the descent or to the ascent??
As the title of this already says it off, we were confused with two diversions with people to either sides and in quandary which the right one was we obviously landed into a wrong direction and moved in ascent. We found a beautiful ancient church there and post to it some twisted steps which doubted our choice and to avoid any further mess up we asked one of the localities. We sadly had to step back and then trailed deep in the tropical forest as you can see in the pics attached, it was the way to a very beautiful village named nongriat. We kept walking and walking, as i said i had no idea that there were total of 3500 steps one way to double decker living root bridge, i kept clicking pics as i could not stop myself from clicking these beautiful place. Later the pace got a bit fast when my partners were annoyed with the number of clicks i already did.

After a while we came across harmony of the turmoil crystal water flowing between huge rocks and below the beautiful bridge. I believe nature has got its own voice, here i could feel the harmony of water talking to my soul. The video attached completely goes with my line of voice. With the bridge there goes a beautiful shot with beautiful lady lost in peace of nature.

Double Decker Living Root Bridge
After walking for around 3-4 hrs we reached double decker living root bridge - beautiful gift from nature molded at its best marveling efforts by khasi tribe. This example of bio-engineering is totally a feast for eyes isn't it? and the harmony of water flowing below it is surely a pleasure to mind. We sat there to the music from deep forest, mystical flowing water watching the bridge holding too many people, the moment i placed my legs in the chilled water, felt some tingling sensation with the fishes all over my feet, free fish pedicure you see, also could hear some screams the moment they were surprised to this.To see how we continued a adventurous trek to Rainbow waterfall and came out with a magical shine all the way back to our stay through double decker bridge please do connect to my blog
